10 Things You Can Do To Improve Your Life

Believe it or not the secret to a happy, fulfilled life isn’t about having huge piles of money in the bank, a luxury home (and envious neighbours) and a stressfully competitive lifestyle. It’s about being able to be the person you are meant to be – someone who is happy in their own skin, and content with the life they are living. To achieve that state of just ‘being’ you firstly have to recognise the changes that need to be made. Then you have to possess the courage to go out there and make them.

Here are a few ideas to get you started…

1. Smile more - Yes it’s that easy! Painting a big fat grin on your face in the morning will guarantee you spend the rest of your day in an uplifted mood. It’ll also encourage other people to smile back at you, which will make you feel warm inside. What could be nicer than that?

2. Learn to manage your time - Sounds simple doesn’t it? But the reality of cramming everything you SHOULD be doing into one day is virtually impossible for most of us. Instead aim to prioritise. Start by listing all the tasks that MUST be undertaken today. Next add the jobs that SHOULD be sorted. And finally tag on the chores that CAN be left for another day.

3. Make time for your needs– Seems obvious really, but if you aren’t functioning to the best of your abilities then neither is everyone else around you. Therefore create a pocket of time for you to pause for breath. Or nip outside for a ciggie. Or put your feet up with a cuppa. That sort of thing. Having moments to put things in perspective will allow you to do just that.

4. Show gratitude – Regularly taking stock of all the good stuff in your life will help you shift those negative pangs. Better still is remembering to say thank you to all the people who make your life a little bit easier day to day. That means the lad who packed your groceries for you, the motorist who stopped to let you cross the road or the call centre telephonist who dealt with your query. Being appreciative will make a real difference to their day too.

5. Let go – Realise that you can’t always be in control of every situation. It is enough that you already do the things that you do. Letting go of the stuff you have no influence over will free you up to get on with the things you do. Focusing only on these will allow you to achieve a new level of inner calmness.

6. Believe in yourself– You CAN do anything you put your mind to. Whether that’s learning a new language or securing promotion. The only thing stopping you is YOU believing you’re not smart, clever, attractive or worthy enough! In other words…it is time to BIG yourself up. Having positive self-belief will empower you to effortlessly achieve your dreams.

7. Listen to yourself – Learn to listen to what your heart tells you to do. Learn to trust your gut instincts. Watch out for what your intuition is saying. Slow the pace down and pay more attention to your inner self. You have your best interests at heart, at all times, so accept that you know what is best.

8. Ask – If you don’t know the answer to something, just ask someone who does. Don’t bury your head in the sand and hope that the problem, or whatever the issue is, will simply go away. Deal with it, like a grown-up. Asking for help or assistance does not show a form of personal weakness, it shows strength of character and a determination to succeed.

9. Chill – Learn to relax and re-energise yourself. Regularly taking time out will refresh and revitalise. Trust that everything will be just fine, because deep down you know that it will be.

10. Give something back – Now that you’re starting to feel more capable, confident and content aim to share that fabulous feel-good feeling with as many people as possible, on a regular basis. Filter in a random act of kindness into every day. Plan to start each day with a smile on your face and end it with an even bigger one.
